Marine Biosecurity Porthole Updated with Latest National Surveillance Data

The Marine Biosecurity Porthole has been updated to include the latest data from the National Marine High Risk Site Surveillance (NMHRSS) programme, covering both the Winter 2024 and Summer 2024–25 survey rounds.

This update provides timely and transparent access to surveillance results from the twelve high-risk ports and marina’s surveyed across the country. The NMHRSS programme is important to New Zealand’s marine biosecurity system, designed to detect non-indigenous marine species that could pose a threat to our unique coastal ecosystems and marine industries.

The newly added data includes:

  • Georeferenced species detections, including all native species recorded.
  • Recent records from the Marine Invasives Taxonomic Service identified from public submissions and other organisations.

Users can explore the updated datasets through the interactive mapping page on the Porthole, enabling better understanding of biosecurity risks and supporting regional and national responses.
